Dr. Stephanie Helfer
Senior Clinical Psychologist
Stephanie Helfer Consulting recognises the vital role that expert supervision plays in a clinician’s professional growth and development. Education has always been a central value for Senior Clinical Psychologist Dr Stephanie Helfer, who draws on her own professional journey and early clinical experiences to provide high-quality, reflective, and supportive supervision to those she works with.
Dr Helfer began her career as a Clinical Psychologist in a demographically disadvantaged suburb of Sydney, Australia. From the outset, she prioritised providing accessible and compassionate mental health care to disadvantaged and vulnerable populations. Working with a high volume of complex cases early in her career inspired her own pursuit of expert clinical supervision, seeking guidance from internationally recognised academics and senior clinicians. These formative experiences underscored for her the transformative value of supervision, the importance of lifelong professional learning, and the personal and career growth that comes from both.
Over the past two decades, Dr Helfer has worked extensively within the public health sector, and she currently serves as the Complex Cases and Complex Trauma Clinical Consultant for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network. In this role, she provides expert consultation across the Network’s inpatient units, the Department of Psychological Medicine outpatient clinics, the Child Protection Unit, Adolescent Medicine, and Emergency Departments.
In addition to her hospital-based role, Dr Helfer acts as a consultant to policy makers within NSW Health, the Department of Education, the Department of Communities and Justice, and various non-government organisations, supporting systemic improvements in trauma-informed care and service delivery.
